high point furniture market fall 2012 part 4: amy howard home...

 

On our last day at the High Point Furniture Market last week, we decided to tackle the Interhall Building. We started on the 6th floor, where we admired the beauty of this display...

 

In spite of the large signage, it took us a moment to realize that we were appreciating the new furniture line of our friend, Amy Howard. 

 

Amy launched Amy Howard Home last July in Atlanta. I heard that it was "all the buzz" during that market (no surprise!), and I was hoping to get the chance to see her pieces in person while in High Point. I cerainly wasn't disappointed.

Amy has been manufacturing and designing custom furniture for many years, and her experience and expertise in finishes, proportions, and details is evident in every piece of the Amy Howard Home line.

I asked Steve to take a picture of a few of my favorite pieces...

The Addison Chair is upholstered in a Flax Slubby Linen with a Gray Velvet. The Walnut Nouveau stained legs compliment the rich finish of the pedestal dining table.

 

 All of Amy's furniture is made in the United States, which enables her to have better control over the quality. 

 

Amy is very hands on during each stage of the design and manufacturing process.  She selects the fabrics, the finishes, the detailing. I loved the pop of orange that she choose for her displays.

 

Amy Howard Home combines reproduction European pieces with more contemporary designs, like this coffee table. 

 

The Cecilia Chair, upholstered in a vibrant orange linen bridges both traditional and contemporary design worlds. 

 

A beautiful sofa, with nail head detailing on the arms, is accessorized with Ryan Studio pillows.  

 

The finishes and the European detailing of this headboard made it one of my favorite pieces.

 

A natural wood finish gives this demi lune a fresh new look.

 

The Swedish Rococo Armoire in a Toscana Alma Grey finish is a very impressive piece.

 

The Gabriella Chest, with a Toscana Parisian Gray finish and a Toscana Chocolate Mousse Top is stunning.  The drop pulls are a charming detail.

 

Amy Howard has included mirrors and accessories in her new line. 

 

Is there any that Amy can't do? When I admired this painting, Amy told me that she painted it herself! Wow!

 

How does Amy do it all? Not only is Amy focused on her furniture line, she is also designing a fabulous new home with my favorite architect, Steve Giannetti. It's going to be something truly unique and unexpected. What a great collaboration!

high point furniture market fall 2012 part 3: bobo intriguing objects and golden oldies...

 

During our visit to the High Point Furniture Market, Steve and I spent some time at the building on West Broad Ave. that is the home for Bobo Intriguing Objects and Golden Oldies. 

Bobo Owner Mark Sage and I share a love for Industrial, Swedish and Belgian antiques and design.

 Mark partnered with Doug and Carina Jenkins of Eneby Antik to create something pretty amazing. 

.

.

Doug and Carina are the duo behind the selection of Swedish antiques that fill the Bobo warehouse. 

.

.

When the Swedish antiques are  combined with the other industrial and European vintage pieces at Bobo, something authentic and magical is created.

.

.

The shapes of these antique chairs are quirky and romantic.

.

.

I am inspired by the authentic finishes of these simple antiques. 

.

.

The layers of different colored paint become something that can not be replicated. 

.

.

After our time at Bobo, we head next door to Golden Oldies.

.

.

The owners of Golden Oldies import vintage and antique accessories on a large scale...

.

.

for a dramatic effect!

Stacks of metal storage containers fill a corner of the large warehouse space.

.

.

The walls of Golden Oldies are covered by a large collection of vintage wall clocks...

.

.

and small wall cabinets. 

.

.

Expansive surfaces are covered by scientific bottles of assorted sizes. 

.

.

Looking for a vintage industrial light (or a horse statue)? Look no further! 

.

.

If you attend the High Point Furniture Market, I highly recommend popping by Bobo and Golden Oldies. Love antiques? Don't miss spending some time at the High Point Antique and Design Center in Market Square.

high point furniture market fall 2012 part 2: pearson...

 

During our visit to the  High Point Furniture Market last week, we were fortunate to have Jennifer McConnell, the Vice President of Design at Pearson, take us on a tour of the Pearson showroom. 

 

This was my first visit to Pearson, and I was very impressed by their designs. I am always on the search for beautiful coffee tables (one of the most difficult pieces to find!). At Pearson, I found several wonderful options, like this Gray Shagreen Coffee Table.

They also have several gorgeous case pieces with the faux shagreen option.

.

A nice coffee table option for a small space: two side tables finished in an off white faux shagreen and aged brass.

I'm not usually a modern furniture lover, but I thought the clean lines of this leather and brass coffee table would look lovely paired with a Belgian linen covered sofa.

Pearson also carries several pretty ottomans. I thought this grouping of four ottomans was a nice alternative to one massive piece.

This larger square ottoman, adorned with nickel nail heads, had such pretty detailing.

The customization options offered at Pearson are endless. For example, the same ottoman show above can be made smaller with brass nail heads. 

.

.

Of course, Pearson has many other beautiful upholstered pieces that can also be customized. Here are a few of my favorite silhouettes...

I like the scale and tailored skirt of this chair.

 The  curves of this chair would add a little feminity to any room.

This beautiful leather chair would look great in a study.

The unique back of this sofa was shown off so wonderfully against the deep teal blue wall.

This market, Pearson showcased many luxurious, textured fabrics.

The Pearson Showroom was also all about jewel toned colors this season.

A Louis XVI chair is given an updated look, upholstered in a  Fall colored stripe.

Pearson offers a huge selection of finish options for their pieces.

 As we left the Pearson Showroom, my head was filled with  gorgeous furniture. Thank you Jennifer!

high point furniture market fall 2012 part 1: hickory chair...

 

Since Steve and I have don't enough going on (a little sarcasm here...), we decided to take a quick trip to High Point North Carolina for the big furniture market this week.

 

The Hickory Chair Showroom is always one of my first stops. The quality of their pieces and the level of design are fantastic. I was not surprised when I was told that most of their manufacturing now takes place here in the United States. 

 

Interior Designer Suzanne Kasler's line for Hickory Chair is one of my favorites. 

.

.

I've always been a fan of Suzanne's Nanette Chair.  This year, Nanette was slipcovered in a chalky blue linen.

.

.

The Leigh Sectional was covered in a handsome navy blue linen. 

.

.

Most of Suzanne Kasler's pieces were covered in tranquil fabrics, like this Simone Headboard, upholstered in a fawn colored velvet...

.

.

and accented with natural linen pillows with yellow details.

.

.

A soft pale gray leather was used on a Lille Bench.

.

.

Yellow accents were placed around the showroom.

.

.

The Southworth Sofa was also upholstered in a fawn velvet, complimented by a couple of  yellow pillows. 

.

.

The Virginia Chair is a classic with a modern twist.  I love the way the shape of the ottoman fits into the gentle curve of the Virginia seat cushion. 

.

.

The Emory Chair is another one of my personal favorites because of its feminine curves and comfort. 

.

.

Walking around the rest of the Hickory Chair Showroom, I stopped to admire the lovely curves of this Giles Chair.

.

.

Nice arm details!

.

.

The March Lounge Chair, designed by Mariette Himes Gomez, also caught my eye. I noticed the framed back cushion  and the curve at the top. 

.

.

A romantic vignette comprised of a soft silk covered Louis XV Bergere, designed by Mark Hampton, and a Vauxhall Cabinet is a cream finish.

.

.

Several pieces, like this sweet Eton Sofa,  were upholstered in a pale lavendar.

.

.

The more rustic Gunnison Chair , with its distressed leather and exposed stitch detailing, was one of Steve's favorites. 

.

.

At Hickory Chair, I enjoyed seeing Thomas Obrien's furniture line as well.  His Hallings Secretary is a perfect mid height piece for a bedroom or living room.

.

.

Alexa Hampton's furniture line is also beautiful!

.

.

On the way out of the showroom, I spent some time in the fabric room. Hickory Chair has some beautiful textiles, leathers as well as a wide selection of finishes to choose from.

.

.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hickory Chair. Not only did I get to see some gorgeous furniture, I also had the chance to catch up with several friends, like Ronda Carmen (creator of All the Best), Meg Fairfax (creator of Pigtown Design), and Interior Designer Tammy Connor as well as Scot Meecham Wood of Tartan Scot and Stefan Hurray of Architect Design.
