Those of you who have followed our story for a while know that we have been adding a variety of animals to our family over the past few years. This weekend we completed our furry family members with the addition of two Babydoll Southdown Sheep....
We spent the night in San Francisco on Saturday and woke up early Sunday morning to make our drive to Moon Hollow Ranch in Sonoma.
Sonoma is absolutely beautiful. All of the rain we have gotten this year in California has turned the hills a vibrant shade of green.
As we drove up the hill, we caught a glimpse of some of the outbuildings at Moon Hollow Ranch.
We didn't realize how far we had climbed until we saw this stunning view.
We knew we were in the right place!
We parked the car and made our way to the sheep barn, but first we said hello to a couple of the goats!
There were also some sheep resting in the sun on this lovely Sunday morning...
Once we were inside the sheep barn, we didn't know where to look first.
The peeping of these new little babies caught our attention...
and then there were these adorable triplet goats that were only a few days old.
This Momma was feeding her day old babies...
After saying our hellos to all of the other little ones, we focused our attention on the sheep nursery.
In a corner we spotted little Velvet and Linen, our new lambs, sleeping next to each other.
During our visit, they didn't leave each other's side. Somehow they knew that they were going to stay together.
Suzanne Harmon, the wonderful animal caretaker at Moon Hollow Ranch, helped us put Velvet and Linen into the carrier in the back of my station wagon. They didn't make a peep during the 7-hour ride home.
When we arrived at Patina Farm, I immediately gave them water and tried to feed them some sweet grains from my hand.
In the beginning, Velvet and Linen will live on my porch and in the "goat garden" with the baby chickens. They lived with chickens at Moon Hollow, so I think the chicks make little V and L feel at home.
For now, I am keeping the goats and new sheep separate from each other. They can see each other and should be ready to mingle in the next few days...
