Am I the only one who can't believe it's 2017? Where did 2016 go? I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season. I spent most of my free time over the holidays drawing... After all of these years, I decided that I want to learn how to express myself through my art. It's been a very interesting process, but I now believe that anyone can learn how to draw! More on that in a future post...
Now that the holidays are over... it's back to work!
We are installing furnishings in our clients' beautiful Malibu home this week, and I thought you might want a sneak peak at what the house looks like now that the renovation is complete.
Because of the challenges of building new construction in Malibu, our clients decided to renovate an existing Mediterranean style home within the original footprint.
BEFORE

Because the landscaping isn't complete, I don't have many images of the exterior of the house to share right now, but in this picture you can see that examples of the new Oak windows and steel doors as well as the new exterior plaster. We also replaced the roof tiles with antique tiles. All of these details are similar to Patina Farm.
Let's go inside...

Although the kitchen is nice and bright now, it wasn't always that way! We enlarged windows and doors and lightened the wood beams.
We fitted the kitchen with all new White Oak cabinetry and center island.
Don't you love the new rustic floors from Exquisite Surfaces?

Our clients' Lacanche range is now the focal point to the kitchen.

The island will have seating on one side and storage on the other.

Because of existing conditions, remodels are always a challenge. The kitchen is a bit narrow, but we wanted to include a sink near the range in the island. To allow for usable counter space, we decided to place the sink in the corner. I think it looks lovely and leaves ample room on one side.

The kitchen is open to this sitting area, creating "the Great Room." We added the limestone and antique fire brick to the existing fireplace.

We purchased an antique door from Chateau Domingue for the Great Room.

The Living Room also got a face life... new White Oak shelves (we needed to remove the fireplace), a lighter ceiling, and two large glass windows to let in the light. We removed all of the baseboards and trim in the house to give the home a more modern feel.

We cut open this wall to open up the view to the stairway.

We replaced the "goopy" stair rail and replaced the multi-colored tile with a more monochrome tile in the same style.

All of the bathrooms were redone. We used an antique draper's table in the Junior Master Bathroom.

We chose a more modern free standing tub.

Please excuse the mess during install!
In the study, we removed the thick, non-structural beam in the ceiling and added steel doors that open to the backyard.

Let's go upstairs to the Master Bedroom...

We couldn't find any antique doors for the Master Bedroom, so we asked Petersen Antiques to make these doors. We used antique hardware that we found on Ebay for this pair of doors.

A pair of antique doors flanks the entry to the Master Bathroom. The free standing bathtub is a dramatic focal point.

Petersen Antiques also made these charming sink bases for the Master Bathroom.

You can appreciate the beauty of the antique roof tiles from the Master Bathroom!

Chateau Domingue made this pair of doors for the outdoor storage room.

A big Thank You to our fantastic clients for letting us share their house with you. We also want to thank Nathan Jones, David Charvet, and Bryan DiNallo of Jones Builder Group for their gorgeous craftsmanship!
A very special Thank You to our own Madison Lussier who did an amazing job as our project manager!
I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak of our clients' home. As always, please feel free to ask questions in the comment section of this post. It's much easier for me to answer questions here rather than from individual email.
Finally, Steve and I want to wish all of you a very Happy, Healthy, and Beautiful New Year. We look forward to sharing our life and design journey with you for another year here and on Instagram!
