When Steve and I started to design Patina Farm, we did not think of our house in a vacuum. The natural beauty that would surround us was just as important as the interior of the house....
I think about our decisions every day...
When I open the curtains in our bedroom at dawn and see the glory of another day beginning...
and when I close the curtains, just as the setting sun illuminates the guest house...
and at mid-day, when I catch a glimpse of the antique oil jar at the end of the long gravel yard.
I think about our decision to create a glass hallway when I walk through in morning to wake up Leila and take in the beauty of the Sycamore...
and enjoy the white floribunda roses in the front garden.
While walking into the kitchen to make breakfast, I am greeted by the view of the well in the rose garden that can be seen through Steve's office door.
After dropping Leila off to school, I come home and sit at my desk. I turn to my left to view the rose vine beginning to frame the powder room oval window...
In the late afternoon, I take a moment in my office to watch the grape leaves on the coop as they begin to glow in the low Autumn sun.
Sometimes I tease Steve about how many windows and French doors he puts in our houses... where will we put any art? Of course, he knows I'm not serious. Nature is my favorite artist!
