I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I was busy driving up and down the coast. It's a beautiful drive, but I must admit that I am looking forward to our move and putting a few less miles on my car!
It was a little wet in Ojai last week, but the masons were able to work between the storms and finish the stone chimney on the guest barn...
We placed a few stones at an angle to hide the metal flue.
Several of you were wondering how the acid wash would change the color of the very white stucco. I must admit I was a little nervous about the color too. Would it still be too white? Our General Contractor, Harold Rody, was nice enough to have the plasterers make us this sample. Thankfully, the acid washed stucco is creamier now and works well with the rest of our palette!
And now to the cupola dilemma... Originally, we were going to place one over each garage, centered between the garage doors.
Here is an image of the cupola from the opposite side... we only have one garage door on this side, so the cupola is centered on the beam.
I love the look of the cupolas, but I can't decide if I like them placed on the garages.
I think I'm driving Rody a little crazy... I asked him to move one of the cupolas to the roof over my office to see them as a pair. I still haven't made my final decision. I may be pushing Rody over the edge, but I did ask him to move the other cupola from over the garage to the chicken coop, across from my office. It was too wet to move it at the end of the week, so we'll have to wait a few days. I'll take a picture on Wednesday to see what you think.
Here's the cupola above my office...
The week of construction ended with the placement of our fountain under the ancient Oak tree behind the house.
I took this picture at the end of the day, just as the mountains were beginning to turn pink (Ojai is know for the "pink moment" that occurs as the sun sets).
Finally, I want to thank all of you for your input regarding the color of the stone tower windows. I think the blue gray paint (similar to Farrow and Ball "Pavilion Grey") looks fantastic!
This coming week should be a big one... wood floors starting...cabinetry...
