legends of la cienega "windows to the world"...

Steve and I had so much fun during the Legends of La Cienega "Windows to the World" event!  

Our Paris Flea Market inspired window at George Smith...

 On Friday night, we spent an hour admiring the windows along La Cienega Boulevard before attending the Veranda Magazine and Jonas Furniture party at Michael Smith's  Jasper Showroom. 

K.C. McCook's widow at Ralf's Antiques was inspired by his experience camping on the Mara River in Kenya.

 

Thomas Callaway's window at Ralf's Antiques was inspired by his love of Maine. 

 

Interior Designer Suzanne Kasler created a Belgian inspired window at Hollyhock.

 

Scotland was the inspiration for Interior Designer Adam Straus' window at Bausman.

 

and Palm Springs was obviously the inspiration for Interior Designer Christian May's window at Gray Morell. 

Steve and I ran out of time to take pictures of all of the windows, but our friend, Christian May did a fantastic job documenting the La Cienega Design Quarter windows on his fantastic design blog, Maison 21 here and here.

mother's day...

I've become one of those people who sees meaning in everything. Maybe that's something that comes with age.

This is my last Mother's Day with all of my three children under our roof. How did that happen? Where does the time go? 

 

As I think about this Mother's Day, I realize that my time with my children, as well as my parents is finite.

 

I know that I will be cherishing this Mother's Day as a special moment in time that will never be repeated in exactly the same way. 

I wish all of you a very special and meaningful Mother's Day.

legends of la cienega event this week!

 

Steve and I were so honored when our friend Lee Stanton asked us to create a window for one of our favorite Los Angeles design events, The Legends of La Cienega "Windows to the World".

 

 

Our window is inspired by one of our favorite places: the Paris Flea Market "Marche Paul Bert".

 

We filled our window at the George Smith Showroom with one of a kind architectural plaster pieces from Giannetti's Studio. 

 

We actually purchased the antique doors that we used as the backdrop for our window at the Marche Paul Bert during our visit to Paris last Summer. 

 

The plaster pieces, designed by Steve's family, are the inspiration for the chalky palette of our window.  

 

A Spring time peach tree adds a bit of natural beauty to our window.

 

 

 

Gilt fragments are randomly displayed on the top of a table in the center of our window. 

 

Steve's Dad shipped several large one of a kind pieces to us after our visit to Washington D.C. last month. Thank you Bob!!!

 

The gilt architectural fragments that we found at Marston Luce look fantastic hanging on the doors of this Swedish buffet.

 

 

Steve's drawings and several smaller Giannetti's Studio plaster pieces are hung in front of burlap panels.

 

Antique vellum and unbound paper books are randomly stacked everywhere.

 

We were excited to see our friends Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe creating their windows at George Smith too.

 

Their windows are inspired by Finnish design.

 

 

We are looking forward to seeing the windows created by many of our favorite designers, including our friend Suzanne Kasler, who is designing a window at Suzanne Rheinstein's famous Hollyhock Showroom. 

 

 

Our friend, Interior Designer and fellow design blogger, Christian May from Maison 21 is also in charge of the design for a window.  This monkey is the only hint that Christian is sharing for his Palm Springs inspired window. I'm sure it will be fantastic!

 

 We hope to see you on La Cienega Boulevard this week!

shopping in georgetown: marston luce...

As I mentioned in a previous post, our recent family trip back East was a balance of adult and children activities. Everyone learned to compromise. After Steve and I agreed to wait in line at Georgetown Cupcakes (the gluten free lava fudge cupcake was amazing!), Leila and Nick were willing to do a little Patina Farm shopping with me and Steve.

Our first stop was Marston Luce Antiques.

 

It was hard for me to control myself in this gorgeous store!

 

The combination of rustic and refined pieces created the exact feeling I want Patina Farm to have. 

 

This 18th Century Swedish cabinet was one of my favorite pieces. Steve and I couldn't find a place to use it at Patina Farm, but I'm hoping that my client will use it in her bathroom. 

 

I apoligize for a couple of blurry images! This one was just too pretty not to include. The green lantern, pottery, and antique books look wonderful on this aged iron shelving unit. 

 

The gilt finish on these architectural elements was just too much for me to resist. Yes, they came home with me. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them!

 

A pair of these wall lanterns are also going to Patina Farm. I think they will be used in the mud room or perhaps on the outdoor patio.

This lantern is going in my new office.

 

This Swedish writing desk will be placed in the main space behind the sofa or in Leila's room.

 

 

Leila liked the faux marble top and the drawer detail.

 

This mirror will most likely be used in Leila's bathroom above her blue Swedish sink base. We both liked the gilt and gesso finish. 

 

This little French side table had wonderful detailing, and I liked the pale color. Unfortunately we have enough side tables for now, so we didn't purchase it. 

 

Combining beautiful antiques and garden elements created a lightness to the feel in the store. 

 

 

The pieces we purchased from Marston Luce arrived last week, just in time for us to incorporate some of them into our window display for the Legends of LaCienega Event this week! I'm planning to take a few pictures of the window tomorrow to share with you.

In the meantime, I hope your week gets off to a wonderful start!
