When we first built our house 10 years ago, the decor was very feminine. Steve would joke (more serious than not...) that he lived in a "chick house".
This is an image of our kitchen when we moved in. The two accent colors were pink and mint green. Although everyone thought it was pretty, the decor definitely didn't reflect the three male members of our family.
A couple of years ago, Steve and I decided to add some masculine touches to our house. We chose a neutral color scheme, and added some industrial elements.
We painted our children's study Farrow and Ball "Lamp Room Gray", and used industrial lighting and leather chairs to create a more masculine space. Ok yes, I couldn't resist some flowers, and Frasier is not a very "manly dog" (Please don't tell him!). Feminine habits are hard to break :)
I love the addition of the masculine energy in our house decor, but I still believe that every woman needs to have a few feminine spaces of her own. My office, for example, is filled with the feminine things that I love.
My friend, Jacqueline DeMontravel, has written a new book that illustrates this point beautifully.
Hers: Design with a Feminine Touch is dedicated to those gorgeous spaces where we women can enjoy a few moments to ourselves.
Like Jacqueline, I believe we women can have these spaces even in a family house. Pretty doesn't have to mean delicate.
In Hers, Jacqueline describes beautiful and unique ways to create your own private retreat no matter who else shares your home .
I'm honored to have my home included in Jacqueline's book! To get a peak into Jacqueline's new book please check out Hers: Design with a Feminine Touch on Amazon. I know you'll find the ideas and images inspiring.
