My friend, Annette Tatum, and I were thrilled with all of the items that sold during our recent One Kings Lane Tastemaker Tag Sales, but there were some great items that didn't sell.

thank you suzanne tucker and big daddy's antiques!

Steve and I are recuperating from all of the fun at the Patina Style book event at Big Daddy's Antiques in San Francisco last night...

 

A trip to Big Daddy's is always inspiring. Before guests arrived, we took a few photos to share with you...

 

Owner, Shane Brown, is a display genius. Big Daddy's is filled with the unique items Shane finds during his travels around the country and around the world. 

 

Big Daddy's is located in a huge warehouse, and Shane takes advantage of the volume of the space by filling it up with some pretty large scale items. 

 

It's the boldness that Shane shows in his displays that always takes my breath away. 

 

Like Steve and me, Shane sees the beauty in every day objects, like old bicycles and industrial lighting. 

 

Steve could live at Big Daddy's. When we visit, he's like a kid in a candy store. 

 

I'm not sure if this is a real submarine, but I know it's cool!

 

A collection of baskets hung on the wall makes a big statement. 

The chalky blue green doors and a bowl of fresh lemons add a pop of color. 

 

What are these? Binoculars? I'd like to think that they are vintage flight goggles.

Big Daddy's is large enough for the tall mast of this ship. What a statement piece!

Shane displays large collections like this group of pierced tin buckets. 

As guests started to arrive, I was busy signing books...

 

but I did take a moment to chat with one of my all time favorite designers, Kim Fiscus! I was so excited to tell her that our Clive chair was inspired by one of her own antique chairs that we saw in a magazine feature of her home.  Greet at Belgian Pearls did a wonderful post on Mema Interiors, Kim's work with her partner Dana Abbott. 

It was a real treat to meet Jenna! She explained to me that our work inspired the renovation of her home here in San Francisco.

 

 Jenna shared images of her gorgeous home, that is featured in the September 2011 issue of This Old House Magazine. Congratulations Jenna!

 

Steve and I had so much fun chatting with the guests. 

 

Our friend, industrial designer Brian Graham, was an unexpected guest. 

At the end of the evening we were able to spend time with our friends, Suzanne Tucker and Timothy Marks, the husband and wife team behind the success design firm Tucker and Marks.

Steve and I are flying to Atlanta this Tuesday for our presentation at the Ainsworth Noah Showroom at ADAC on Wednesday at 11:00 and a Patina Style book signing at 2:00 at Boxwoods, one of our favorite shops in Atlanta.

display inspiration: rue de lillie

Steve and I took some time off on Saturday to visit one of our favorite shops, Rue de Lillie in Summerland, Ca.

 

Although Rue de Lillie is located in a charming seaside cottage in California, Steve and I always feel as if we've been transported to Europe the minute we arrive.

 

Owner, Francesca Wolf, has a wonderful eye for creating beautiful displays with the pieces she finds from her travels around Europe.

 

Several miniature manequins are placed next to a pair of French blue ceramic birds and plates.

 

If you are searching for pillows to add that "je ne sais quoi" to your home, I'm sure you will find them here!

 

Fortuny and French inspired textile pillows mix beautifully.

 

Francesca and I share a love for gray wood and the romance of candlesticks. 

 

Apparently we also share a fondness for chickens!

 

A gorgeous pleated lamshade makes a lovely table lamp even more beautiful. It's these types of details that set Rue de Lillie apart from other home stores. 

 

Steve loved the detailing and the perfectly aged leather of this antique club chair. 

 

Francesca also mixes in pieces by local artists, like these fantastic dolls created by the Junk Girls.

 

Behind the cottage a small staircase covered by lavendar leads you to the secrect garden...

 

Several doves are cozy in the vintage birdcages that are scattered about the garden. 

 

Francesca has filled the garden with amazing elements like these oil jars...

 

fountains and iron furniture.

 

We've purchased several pairs of these French shutter for our Oxnard home. They add so much detail and are a fantastic faded gray backdrop for displays. 

 

A pair of cherubs are caught sharing a moment by the fountain.

 

As we walk along the side of the cottage, we find another vintage birdhouse...

 

the home to several happy finches!

 

As Steve was busy taking a picture of the gorgeous patina of this chest of drawers...

 

I spied another "Patina" on display. I was so excited to see Patina Style featured at Rue de Lillie!!!

 

We walked out the door of Rue de Lillie and spied these nasturtiums spilling over the gray wood planters, one last bit of gorgeous inspiration before we said goodbye.
