It has been quite a while since I've shared images of what our weekend home looked like before we started our renovations. Since our home is featured in the July/August 2011 issue of Veranda Magazine, I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the "before" images.
I think these images speak for themselves, so there will be very little commentary...

Okay, I can't help myself... we had to get rid of the 1970's lava wall and all of the dark brown.

Bye Bye lava rock and diagonal siding. We painted the windows Farrow and Ball "Hardwick White".

We replaced a couple of the cabinet fronts with chicken wire and removed the heavy oven vent. We added lamps on the island so we wouldn't need to use the terrible recessed lighting.

Steve and I used this home as our science lab. We had so much fun trying out new ideas. These experiments gave us more confidence in our instincts and reinforced our design aesthetic.
Do you use your home to experiment? I'd love to hear what you have learned. Has it given you more confidence in your design instincts?
