a big thank you and a few of my new favorite things at giannetti home...

Thank you to everyone who attended the panel discussion at the gorgeous Rose Tarlow showroom last weekend during the LaCienega Design Quarter Event! I was so honored to be included on the panel with Paul Wiseman and Andrea Stanford. Susan McFadden, Editor-in-Chief of California Homes Magazine, did a wonderful job moderating the discussion.

It was such a treat to be able to spend some time with all of the beautiful women from Veranda Magazine!

After all of the fun last weekend, it was back to work on Monday. We just received a new shipment of antiques from Europe as well as some gorgeous handmade pillows. 

I thought I'd share a few of my favorites...

One of our new hand knit pillows adds some coziness to our leather Clive chair.

The chalky gray interior of this 18th Century Swedish hutch showcases our collection of white ceramic dishes, bowls and cups beautifully. 

A vintage fringed African textile pillow is paired with rectangular handknit pillow on the linen upholstered Portia chair.

I'm a huge fan of neutral texture!

I love the weathered blue interior of this French 19th Century Display Cabinet!

The details of this pair of 19th Century mountain chairs from Dolomites Italy are so charming and unique. The finish is aged to perfection.

 An ivory linen pillow with rope stripes is paired with a cream colored hand knit pillow on an antique French Meridienne chaise. 

I made copies of my vintage portraits. They are hung in a group in one of our windows. I can't tell the difference between the copies and the originals! 

The portraits are hung next to this Gustavian buffet. The original paint of this piece works beautifully with the subtle colors in the artwork.

steve's drawings for patina style...

We were very (very!) fortunate to have an amazing team when we wrote Patina Style. Our dear friend and book agent Jill Cohen, introduced us to book designer, Doug Turshen, who is incredible. Doug and Steve had a mutual admiration for each other. They had a shorthand that I've never seen Steve have with any other collaborator.

When we were trying to decide what the opening page for each chapter should look like, Steve and Doug had a several discussions that led to a fantastic idea: a series of drawings based on Beaux Arts vignettes. Each drawing encapsulates the essence of the chapter and incorporates our favorite design elements, that you may recognize.

I think you'll agree with me that Steve and Doug are good...real good.

rose story farm...

My dear friend and mentor Penny Bianchi planned an unforgettable day before Mother's Day experience! 

A few weeks ago, Penny mentioned one of her favorite places to spend the day is Rose Story Farm in Carpinteria. Although Steve and I have explored the charming seaside town of Carpinteria over the years, we never discovered this magical farm.

I spied Penny and her grand daughter, Poppy under an arbor of soon to be blossoming rose vines.

I'm always smiling ear to ear when I'm in Penny's company.

Originally built in 1880 by a sea captain, Rose Story Farm began in 1998 when the present owners purchased 1000 rose bushes. One of my favorites is "Sally Holmes", a showy rose vine that the owners trained to create a fabulous blooming hedge. 

Rose Story Farm now grows 18,000 rose bushes with 120 different varieties!

The stables and carriage house are now used as offices and a gift shop.

Rose Story Farm is an organic farm and is known for magnificent cut roses. 

The barn and 4 cottages were built on the 15 acre farm in the 1920's. 

The front of this lovely cottage is covered with pale pink "Cecil Bruner" roses.

As Steve and I explore the carriage house we catch a glimpse of a gorgeous courtyard through the window.

A stunning vine of "Berries and Cream" roses compliment the green doors of the barn.

Have you ever seen anything this amazing?

A showy red rose vine, paired with fragrant lavender, covers another wall of the courtyard.  

All of the roses at Rose Story Farm are incredibly fragrant and romantic!

A enormous peony shaped rose name "Yves Piaget" is one of my favorites...

The fragrance is intoxicating to Penny and...

to me!

"Sombrielle" is a fabulous white climber.

A group of Italian Cypress create a Italian garden in the center of the farm, a perfect place to have a wedding!

Julia Child was a special friend to the owners of the Rose Story Farm. A breathtaking garden filled with the stunning yellow rose bushes named after Julia has a special place on the farm. 

An array of yellow blooms, ranging from pale to vibrant, cover each bush of "Julia Child".

Thank you to Penny and Poppy for sharing this magical place with us!
