Once again I want to thank all of you who emailed Chicago recommendations to me. We had a fantastic trip.
Some of the highlights that I would definitely recommend to you:
Garrett Popcorn is a must! The Chicago Mix (a mix of caramel and cheese popcorn) was our family favorite.
On our first morning out, we walked from our hotel to Millenium Park. Our favorite sites:
The Jay Pritzker Pavillion, designed by Frank Gehry.
The whole family had fun seeing the city and themselves reflected in artist Anish Kapoor's stainless steel "Cloud Gate" sculpture.
We spent quite some time here taking silly pictures.
The reflections of the city were fascinating!
We spent the rest of the morning exploring the Chicago Art Institute, located at the South end of Millenium Park.
We enjoyed seeing the famous works of Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet, but I have to admit that we spent more time at the Thorne Room exhibit.
There are 68 rooms to view that allow you to see authentic European and American interiors dating from the 13th century to the 1930s.
This French Boudoir was one of my favorite rooms.
Leila liked the French Provincial Bedroom.
The English Cottage was so charming!
This American Hallway features several original works by Picasso.
A 1930's English Drawing Room has a collected interior design.
Mrs. James Ward Thorne designed and supervised over the construction of each room.
The attention to detail becomes even more impressive when you take into consideration that the rooms are...
built at a one inch to a foot scale!
Leila and I read The Sixty Eight Rooms before our trip. This book is a great way to help your child appreciate this unique exhibit.
To view images of all of the Thorne Rooms and other magnificent exhibits, you can visit the Chicago Art Institute website.
