eloquence at the l.a. mart gift show...

In direct contrast to the industrial inspired designs of irons & duck that I featured in my last post, Kim and Amelia, owner's of Eloquence, have created a romantic booth filled with European antique and reproduction furniture at this year's L.A. Mart Gift Show. 

Located on the second floor of the Mart in the Temporaries, the Eloquence stall caught my eye immediately!

Kim and Amelia use antique mirrored doors as the back drop for their beautiful vignettes. A big clock face provides large scale interest! 

Another large ebony clock face is quite dramatic, leaning against a set of weathered shutters. A pair of shimmery crystal pendants add a bit of sparkle to the vignette hanging above a set of rustic bowls.

A gilt mirror hangs on a set of chippy white shutters. As you can see, Eloquence has a great inventory of chandeliers and sconces.

A dressmaker's form sits in the corner, embellished with fabric garlands.

Eloquence has a beautiful line of reproduction furniture, like this cane coffee table in their antique white finish. 

They also have a wonderful line of reproduction beds. We recently purchased one of their tufted beds for our client. 

Eloquence also has several antique display cabinets. 

A vintage iron planter filled with French lavender adds a bit of the outdoors to the Eloquence stall.

irons & duck

I spent the afternoon with Kelly at the L.A. Mart gift show. I thought you might enjoy seeing a couple of my favorite vendors.

irons & duck is one of my newest finds. I know that the industrial look is very popular right now, but most of the pieces feel fake and forced. irons & duck feels authentic.

The irons & duck stall was filled with their furniture built from real factory pieces.

These benches were a couple of my favorite pieces. 

The irons & duck stall was decorated with everyday items like the clip boards displayed on this wall.

Another favorite piece: this clothes rack that I want to use in my next laundry room.

They had several wonderful crusty table lamps on display.

The simplicity of their displays brought everyday objects into the realm of art.

I could imagine the person who worked in these boots for a life time.

This picture captures the sculptural feel of these stacked metal baskets.

The patina of these weights are impossible to recreate in a reproduction.

The creators of irons & ducks understands how people connect with the finish of a piece that shows the age that occurs when it has been used for decades.

thank you elle decor and a few other updates...

I apologize for the lack of posts this last week. It's been a bit hectic around here!

Charlie and I just arrived back home from Fort Lauderdale where I participated in the Elle Decor panel discussion: Redesigning Design, how the internet is reshaping the design industry. Unfortunately Heather Clawson from Habitually Chic, Gaye Tapp from Little Augury, and our moderator Allison Mezzafonte, Executive Editor of Elledecor.com were unable to attend due to the terrible East Coast weather.  But Jennifer Bowles of The Peak of Chic, Stefan Hurray of Architect Design, and I enjoyed sharing our experiences with the audience. 

 

Elle Decor's Executive Director of Brand Development, Ellen Rubin did a wonderful job as last minute moderator!

Thank you again to Elle Decor and to everyone who attended the discussion yesterday!

Although we were only in Fort Lauderdale for 24 hours, somehow Charlie convinced me to take him jet skiing! I guess it was the least I could do, given how hard I was squeezing his hand during our bumpy flight.

Meanwhile, back at home....

Since I'm not a big DIY person (bags of screws and nails, and pages of building instructions like the ones pictured below scare me a bit)...

we asked our friend, Mike Duff, to help us assemble the chicken coop. It still needs to be modified a bit and painted, but it should be ready when the chicks are old enough to make the move outside. Oh, if you need a great carpenter, call Mike: 310.844.5676! 

The whole family is amazed at how quickly the chicks are growing. They have doubled in size in the past couple of weeks!

dcota winter market 2011

I want to thank Elle Decor for inviting me to participate in their keynote panel discussion: Redesigning Design, this tuesday January 18th at 2 p.m. during the Winter Market at the Design Center of the Americas in Fort Lauderdale.

Gaye Tapp of Little Augury, Jennifer Boles of The Peak of Chic, Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic, Stefan Hurray of Architect Design and I will be talking about how the internet is transforming the design industry. The discussion will be lead by elledecor.com Executive Editor Allison Mezzafonte. 

If you are planning to attend, please say "Hi" to me and Charlie. As many of you know, I have an irrational fear of flying. Charlie has kindly agreed to come with me so I can squeeze his hand on the flight :)
