a thank you and a secret finally revealed...

This is a two part post...

I want to thank all of you who left such wonderful comments about our feature in Rue Magazine.

Rue's Executive Editor, Anne Sage and I have been friends since I discovered her blog The City Sage, over 2 years ago. It was such a treat getting to meet her in person! 

I really enjoyed getting a chance to chat with Anne and photographer Teri Lyn Fisher, two very talented and creative women.

I just read on Joni's blog, Cote de Texas that Anne and Rue's Editor in Chief, Crystal Gentilello are the latest visitors to the Skirted Round Table. To listen to their interview click here.

Onto the second part of this post...

I owe all of you an apology. I've been keeping a secret from you. Usually I share everything with you here at Velvet and Linen, but I was told that I needed to keep this a secret until now....

For the past few months Steve and I have been writing a book! It it going to be about our design philosophy and will be filled with hundreds of gorgeous images.

Our book will be published in September 2011, and we're excited to share details with you during the months ahead.  It is only because of your support that the book is becoming a reality. We thank you so much!

Our dialogue here on my blog has really helped both Steve and I  refine and clarify our ideas about design! 
 

I will be able to share the title and cover soon! I'm also looking forward to telling all of you about the process of writing and designing a book. It's been a whole new and exciting experience!

gilt home showhouse: part 1...

As I mentioned in my last post, Steve and I are in the middle of installing our room in the Gilt Home Showhouse.

This is what the room looked like when we first saw it.

 

The burlap panels were installed last week. They add some scale to the room.

On Monday, our electrician, Sam A. Electric, replaced the sconces with picture lights and hung the chandelier while Steve and I layered the floor with beautiful hand woven carpets. 

Nick, our art installer, secured the Gustavian clock  and hung Steve's paintings and drawings on all of the walls. 

At this point, the room looks like a mess. Will we be able to pull it together?

Nick made copies of Steve's nude sketches that will be for sale on the Gilt City site during the event. They look beautiful next to the Gustavian desk. 

As more of Steve's paintings were hung, the room started to come together!

The room isn't quite ready for its close-up just yet. It still needs more accessories, pillows, plants, arranging, but it is definitely getting there!


We'll be going back to the house on Friday to finish up. I promise to post new images as soon as I can! More information about the Gilt Home Showhouse will be available next week.

gilt home showhouse...

Steve and I are so excited to be part of the next Gilt Home Showhouse sponsored by Gilt Home and Gilt City Los Angeles. For those of you new to the Gilt websites, they are a fantastic way to find great deals in your own city.

Most of the details about this event are a bit hush hush at the moment, but we have selected our room and sketched out the concept for our design.

We've chosen one of the bedrooms. It is one of the simplest room in the house which will provide us with a clean slate for our design. We also liked the tall ceiling height and the sunny exposure. 

Steve did a simple furniture layout. We've decided to create an artist's studio so that we can showcase our Giannetti Home furniture line and Steve's artwork that will be for sale on the Gilt City site for a few days during the event. 

Here's Steve's preliminary sketch of the room. We hung a pair of burlap curtains last week. They definitely add some scale to the room.



We are starting the installation today, and I'm both excited and nervous! I'll be posting pictures of the whole process as well as more information about the Gilt Home Showhouse in the next couple of weeks, including the names of the other wonderful designers involved and  the name of the celebrity that owns this beautiful home.
