I've always been drawn to women's portraits. Once I created a collection, I asked myself the question: "What is it about these images that moves me?" After some time I realized the answer was two-fold...
All of my portraits have a certain mood or emotional tone. This feeling is created by the serious subject matter in each of the images, but it is also created by the tone of color. It wasn't until I read my friend Kelley's interview of author Stephanie Hoppen, that I saw that all of my portraits were painted in "dirty colors".
These "off colors" have a aged patina to them that gives them character and history.
Many of the paint colors that I select for our rooms, like the "Pink Ground" in our bathroom, have that same dirty, chalky quality.
The ballerina painting that I bought a couple of weeks ago was painted in these same dirty colors.
Do you like dirty colors? Or are you a more clean vibrant color person?
