There was a time not so long ago that I had to do a lot of searching to find great furniture and accessories for my clients. As an interior designer I have benefited enormously from the better designed pieces that are finding their ways into stores like Restoration Hardware and catalogues like Wisteria. Of course, the proliferation of wonderful products has also affected me as a store owner. Now more than ever, I am on the look out for unique items to fill up the shop that won't be found in chain stores or catalogues, at least for a while!
So for all of you seeking design inspiration either for your home or for the catalogues you work for (LOL), I thought I would share with you some of the things I'm loving right now...
These 1940's fencing masks are hauntingly beautiful on their simple iron stands.
For some reason, I am loving old riding boots and doctors' bags these days. A little pop of worn black or dark brown leather looks great in any room.
Each of these tortoise shells has its own unique design. The colors work beautifully with our old leather books.
Art tools can be as beautiful as the artwork that is created with them. These gorgeous jade and bone Chinese calligraphy brushes are a perfect example.
A group of watery blue jars share some shelves with coral and barnacles to create a coastal vibe.
I always have a hard time finding pillows for the store. I don't like most mass made pillows. They lack the charm of these one-of-a-kind pillows made from vintage fabrics. They're perfect for the 4th of July!
Our Indonesian blue and white pillows paired with a vintage flag add some more Independence Day color to the store.
Another of my weaknesses? Old Signage. These vintage Optician signs are so much fun! We placed them in the window with our leather theater seats. Wouldn't these seats make a unique mud room bench?
On one of our shopping trips, Steve and I found a couple of travel albums that were over 100 years old. They were filled with images from a family's trip to Europe. Some of the photographs are of famous places in France....
and Italy....
I love this one of the Eiffel Tower!
These aren't your ordinary travel photos! Steve loves the beautiful composition of this image. Each page has a photo on both sides. They are all so wonderful that it was difficult to select which side to display!
We framed each one between two sheets of plexiglass, and hung as many as we could in a grid in our office.
I wish we could have hung them all. We have at least another fifty of them for sale but no more room to display them!
Sitting in front of his white drawings, and dressed in his black shirt , Steve fits right in!
