I know I promised a series of posts about the house that Steve and I are finishing right now. I think that these images may help you to understand that the posts haven't quite coalesced yet.  During the next week or so this home will come together. For now this is what is swirling in our heads!

happy valentines day...

I was going to do a post today on the garden that Steve is working on for our client. Then I realized that today is Valentines's Day! So, this is the only picture you'll see of the garden for now.

There is a reason why I'm including this image of Steve in our client's garden. It's because of what I was feeling when I took it. I'm sure those of you who are married will understand. There are moments in a relationship when you get to stand away from your partner and just observe them. You get to see their passion for what they do. This was one of those moments. 

 

I'm very lucky to be married to Steve, because there are so many moments like this. I see his passion when he is interacting with our children, when he is creating one of his paintings, and I see it when he is at work. 

So, this is my Valentine to Steve this year. It's a "Thank you" Valentine. Thank you for sharing your passion with me for over 23 years!

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. May it be a day filled with love and passion for what fills your life and gives it meaning.

merida natural fiber carpets...

So sorry for the lack of posts this week. We are busily getting ready for an installation next week. I'm planning to do a series of posts along the way that I think you will enjoy. I'm working on tomorrow's post, which will be about our clients' beautiful garden. 

I did want to do a quick post today to thank Merida for featuring  our Merida "Bora Bora" rug in our sunroom in their recent e-mail blast. 

They also included a picture of my other Bora Bora  rug in my family room.  I love Merida natural fiber rugs and am thrilled that they liked my rooms enough to include them in their "Sustainable Design with Style" segment! To read the whole article click here.

my dining room and exciting 1st dibs news!

The final room in my home that I want to share with you from our "New Old House" Magazine photo shoot is my cozy dining room. It's not a huge room, but it's a wonderfully warm and intimate place to dine with our family and friends.

This is what our dining room looked like for the "Romantic Homes" Magazine photo shoot that took place a few months ago. I thought it looked beautiful. Perfect for their readers. I can't wait to see the photos in their May issue! 

Steve wanted to change  just a few things for the "New Old House" shoot. For those of you who were concerned that I had gotten rid of my beautiful embroidered screen, worry no more! It found a place above one of our Swedish cabinets.

 

We placed  antique French pine shutters on either side of the cabinet as a backdrop for my grandmother's silver leaf chairs. 

 

Three 19th Century Italian architectural fragments sit on the hearth of the fireplace. 
 

Their gilt finish glowed in the light of the candles in the fireplace.
   

It was interesting for me to watch photographer Eric Roth walk around our home. Certain things caught his eye. 
  

Like this oversized mirror on the dining room wall. It was originally a church window in New Orleans. 
 
 I love the changes we made to this room. It feels more unique. More "us". I particularly like the composition of the Swedish cabinet, the pine shutters, the screen, and my grandmother's chair, because they are all of the things that I love.
