powder room design - part two

I guess we are now committed to remodeling our powder room! To see Part One of our powder room remodel click here.

Here is what our powder room looked like last week...

Because our powder room is under the stairs we are creating an arched ceiling.

This is where the dated 1970's built in sink cabinet used to be.

Soon to be replaced with this....

We have definitely decided to use this as our faucet...

One of these in antique brass will be installed on the console...

Or should we use one of these?

On the way up to Oxnard, we stopped here...

We found this! I know you are going to think I'm crazy, but we are going to use it as a sink!

Judy at Exquisite Surfaces put the last 85 square feet of Aged Massangis Jaune Clair Limestone on hold for me. It's the same limestone that we used in our master bathroom.

I still haven't found a ceiling light or a great mirror. Any suggestions?

The French silver leaf mirror I found in Atlanta is still a contender.

We still like the idea of doing a table lamp on the console instead of sconces.

This is the one we are thinking of using right now.

a few of my new favorite things...

I have used Merida Meridian natural fiber rugs on several jobs and always love the way they look and feel,so Steve and I have decided to carry their line of rugs in our shop. We ordered two of our favorites to have as samples in the shop, and I thought I would share them with you. They are all natural and pretty reasonably priced compared with other rug options.

We ordered a 10'x12'  Bora Bora jute rug in the Sunrise color with a custom cotton binding in Natural. It looks fantastic with our cream linen slipcovers and the gray finish on the Swedish pieces. I like the fact that no dyes are used. The Bora Bora is a little thicker than a sisal or sea grass carpet. The texture is wonderful and soft to walk on. 

To show a completely different look, we also bought a Silver Topaz rug made of Belgian Sisal. We used a Quarry linen binding. 

Love the Basket Weave pattern. The Silver Topaz color really complements the gray finish of our Swedish pieces as well as the colors in the area rug we laid on top of it.

 

If you read Joni's blog, Cote de Texas (and if you don't, you should!)  you may have noticed that we have some new Tara Shaw additions to the shop. 

This little Gilded Iron Table found a place in the shop.....

The finish is wonderful, and it is so reasonably priced!

ann sacks tile bathroom

When I was a little girl I loved making flip books. You know, those books where you would make a drawing of a beach ball and move the ball a little bit on each page so it looked like a cartoon movie? Well, this is the interior design flip book of a beautiful powder room.

All of the wonderful tile is by Ann Sacks. The plumbing fixtures are by Waterworks (including the oval mirror). Steve designed the custom cabinet with a Thassos marble slab top.

colour me happy and my color personality

One of my favorite bloggers, Maria from Colour Me Happy tagged me to answer the questions of House Beautiful's Color Personality Color Quiz.

1. What's the first color you see in the morning?

We spent the weekend at our home in Channel Islands Harbor, so I saw the gauzy white drapes in my bedroom.  The Pierre Frey fabric just glows. It's a wonderful way to start the day.

2. What color are your eyes? 

Dark brown, but they do seem to be getting lighter as I get older.

3. What color do you wear the most?

Black. Although I love fashion magazines, I find that I'm always in a rush in the morning and have little time to think about what to wear. Black is always the easiest.

4. What color do you never wear?

Yellow. Makes me look.... yellow.

5. What color do you wear when you want to feel sexy?

No, this isn't me (I wish!), but this Victoria Secret model definitely gets the message across.

6. What color gets you the most compliments?

Turquoise.

7. What color is your lipstick?

Stila "Jo". It's a sheer plum color that brightens up my face.

8. What color was your living room growing up?

I grew up in a Mediterranean home that my parents decorated with romantic colors. Our sofas were a rich burgundy mohair. That is the color I remember the most.

9. What color was your bedroom growing up?

Like this image, my bedroom was lavender as far as the eye could see!

Lavender walls, lavender bedding, lavender carpet. My parents were obviously better parents than I am! I'm not sure I would be able to let Leila do what they let me do!

10. What color are your sheets?

White linen. Love them. 

11. What color was your favorite crayon as a child?

Oh that's a tough one. I loved all 64 colors! But if I have to choose, I'd say violet purple (remember my bedroom!).

12. What color is your car?

Silver.  No this isn't my car. I have three kids! Mine is a station wagon, but a girl can dream....

13. What color was your prom dress?

No prom :( 

Long story for another time...

14. What is your favorite gemstone?

Again, it's hard to pick just one. I love gemstones. Leila and I had such a wonderful time at the Smithsonian gemstone exhibit a few years ago.

 Just one? Well then I would have to go with sapphires.

15. What's your favorite flower?

Hydrangeas. I love how they change color through the season. Mine started out white, then turned a light pink, and are now a deeper pink with hints of citrus green.

16. What color makes you happy?

The pale pink of a cabbage rose. That color reminds me of all of my favorite English gardens as well as my little Leila.

17. What color depresses you?

I was going to say brown, but I love old brown leather chairs and wood.

Hmm... now I know. Beige. So blah.

18. What color calms you?

The pale turquoise blue of sea glass.

19. What color makes your teeth grind?

Similar to Maria's answer of pinky beige: Mauve.

20. What color would you like to try but are afraid to?

I don't think I'm afraid of any color. I really do use all of the colors that I love.
