Last thursday, Artie did a Table Scape Thursday post Cote de Texas style.
Artie created a beautiful outdoor dining experience that interpreted Joni's style. I thought he did a fantastic job. I left him a comment about my love of burlap, which he used to create a "skirted table". I told Artie that initially I tried to include "burlap" in the name of my blog, but it just didn't roll off the tongue very well!
Burlap has this wonderful texture that I like to incorporate into my designs. I like the juxtaposition of the rough texture (the burlap, or what eventually became "linen") with more refined Swedish/French pieces (the "velvet" in the name of my blog).
So, when Steve and I were designing new headboards for our guest room in Channel Islands we decided to cover them in.... burlap. The edge of the burlap has this great blue stitching on it. We decided to sew two pieces together and have the stitching meet in the middle of the headboard.
Our wonderful upholsterers, Sherry and Ralph used old upholstery tacks to attach the burlap to the narrow wood frame.
Steve liked the idea of leaving the back of the headboard exposed, so you could see how it was actually constructed. We both love the look of the jute webbing inside the wood frame.
Yes, this weekend, I am hooked on burlap. I always love celebrating the weekend with Julia. Check out Julia's Hooked on Fridays post to see what other bloggers are hooked on.
Have a fantastic weekend!
