I was about to leave the shop yesterday when I had an unexpected visitor. One of my favorite designers, Joe Nye stopped by! It was such a treat to spend an hour or so getting to know each other a bit. It turns out that Joe will be in New Orleans tomorrow as well for the Design Leadership Summit.
I am sure I sounded like a complete groupy, but I couldn't help telling him (probably more than once) how much I admire his work. I told him that I was so inspired by one of his stunning projects that was featured in Santa Barbara Magazine last month.
Joe's clients recently moved from the mid-west to Montecito. They fell in love with an American saltbox style home built in the 1991 by Santa Barbara architect Don Nulty. Joe Nye's interiors are perfectly suited for this style home.
The entry wallpaper is so lovely above the perfectly detailed wainscot. Joe's love of antiques is apparent throughout the home.
The dining room is on of my favorite rooms in this home. The Cowtan and Tout fabric on the chairs compliments the wallpaper perfectly. I prefer muted colors in my rugs, like the one Joe selected for this room. For this home, Joe shopped local antique shops, but he also mentioned that he does much of his shopping at 4:30 in the morning on websites like 1st dibs. I thought I was the only one up at that crazy hour of the day!
Joe Nye never misses even the smallest detail, like the trim on the edge of the ottoman or the small tassel fringe on the drapery valance. The colors in this sitting room are beautifully subtle like the lovely Aubusson rug. The filigree candle stick holder is such a wonderful touch.
The drapery fabric is designed by Suzanne Rheinstein, an old friend and mentor of Joe's.
Again, Joe Nye's attention to detail! I really don't know how he does it.
The vintage toy trucks were found at a local antique store. I love how the books are lined up by color. I can imagine sitting at this table, sipping an evening glass of wine with a wonderful book....
The mountain setting is as beautiful as the home. Two cozy wicker chairs and a metal table from Waterworks make a charming sitting area by the pool.

I am planning on bringing my camera and computer to New Orleans. We are going on a tour of the Garden District on Friday as well as a tour of some private homes!
I can't wait to share my trip with you.
Have a great Wednesday!
