I start each week thinking that I won't have anything interesting to write, and then something like this happens.
Steve and I hosted the Design Network Group event at our studio, and I met the most amazing artist, Scott Waterman. At first we connected over deGournay wallpaper. Scott visited our website and saw a deGournay wallpapered dining room that Steve and I designed. He mentioned that he created a mural that was based on a deGournay design. Fortunately, he brought his portfolio with him.
This is Scott's handpainted mural! Stunning.
Scott's portfolio included his fantastic sketches and images of his finished work.
Scott's beautiful work has been featured in several magazines.
Although Scott's finished artwork is amazing, it is his sketches that speak me. They
help me to understand his design process.
Looking through Scott's portfolio, I was amazed by the diversity and complexity of his work.
Like most artists, Scott's work is constantly evolving. Scott e-mailed me a link to his studio flickr site that is worth looking at. I loved this image of his work space!
I am looking forward to collaborating with Scott on a future project. I know we will create something magnificent!
There is also something else I wanted to write about...
Blogging has been an amazing gift in my life. Before blogging, I never imagined being so connected to a global design community. It seems like every comment I leave on other blogs starts with the word "Wow!" There are several posts that I feel all of you need to read.
I was so excited when I found Maria's blog Color Me Happy . Her last two posts really spoke to me. Her post "10 Things I have Learned about Blogging in 4 Months"
is one of the must reads for any of us bloggers. Maria answered all of my "blogging etiquette" questions and more! I won't list all 10 points, but I will mention two of the ones that really hit me. Maria learned from the magnificently talented Patricia Gray
about "no free grazing". As Maria says, "If I read someone's post, it is polite to leave a comment". We bloggers love comments. It is the dialogue that we crave. Even if you subscribe to my e-mail, please click on my blog and leave a comment. I love them!!!
Maria, on the right, with one of my other favorite bloggers, Michelle Morelan (check out her blog, A Schematic Life)
Maria's other not to miss post is called "Happiness is ... Being Uncomfortable", where she discusses the fact that we learn the most from our mistakes. This is something I struggle with everyday. I am involved with so many projects that it is inevitable that things go wrong. Is this ok? No! err..I mean yes! The correct answer is "YES", but the
answer in my head is still "NO!!!" I think I need to read Maria's post daily. Thank you, Maria for sharing your own mistakes so openly with us.
The world through Maria's eyes....
Another of my favorite blogs is Things That Inspire
Things That Inspire was one of my first blog friends. We bonded over chandeliers as only two interior design junkies could. Her last two posts on Beautiful Clocks
did not disappoint (and it isn't just because she included my entry, although that was appreciated!)
Valorie from Visual Vamp sent Things That Inspire some fantastic large clock face images. This is one of her favorites (and mine).
Things That Inspire also included a wonderful image of an antique French barometer from Joni that is just beautiful.
Thank all of you for a wonderful start to this week!
