A few weeks ago I did a post called "my design process - part one",
where I described my first meeting with my client (Ms. B) and how I developed my initial design for her bedroom.
Here is the original sketch for Ms. B's bedroom.
I thought you might be interested seeing what happened next.
I think I have mentioned this several times before, but for those of you who don't know me very well I'll mention it again...I love fabrics! So, now that Ms. B and I liked the layout for her room, we went shopping for fabrics, and this is what we found....
This part of my job can feel a bit scary. No matter how many times I've done this, I always wonder, "Can I actually do something with all of this?"
So, Ms. B and I just started pulling the fabrics out and seeing what we liked together.
These Peter Dunham fabrics looked lovely with some added velvets and linens.
But then we pulled out this great "Missoni" inspired Quadrille fabric!
The green velvet looked great with it.
At the end of our meeting this is what the fabric selection looked like.
We were both really happy with it, but I always like to take the fabrics home and play with them for a few days.
When I got home, I thought the scheme needed to be a little more fun. Ms. B and her husband are a young couple, and I wanted their bedroom to have a little more energy.
I added a citrus yellow/green Raoul linen and a red patterned fabric to replace the off-white linen. A similar yellow/green velvet replaced the more lime green alternative.
Now it was time to figure out what pieces to do in which fabrics, so we colored the drawing of the room...
Here is the final colored drawing. The Raoul linen is going to go on the couch with red accent pillows...
The couch will be similar to this Anthropologie couch, adding a little modern flair to the room.
This red woven fabric is going to look great on a chair similar to this one....
We are going to use the wonderful Quadrille fabric....
to reupholster Ms. B's ottoman.
This custom headboard will be upholstered in the citrus velvet. Yummy!
The pillows on the bed will be a combination of these two fabrics...
This other Raoul fabric will go on a bench at the foot of the bed...
maybe something like this.
If we still have money left in our budget, this neutral woven fabric will go on...
two of our Leila chairs around a table by the fireplace.
We're thinking simple white linen on the draperies or maybe this Raoul embellished sheer, if our budget will allow...
Since Ms. B's home is Mediterranean, we are thinking about using 3/4" iron rods from Gaby's
I love their finials and finishes...
So many to choose from!
Our next step is to find side tables and a chest of drawers. We still need to get prices for the draperies and the sisal carpet. I'll let you know how it goes!
