Personally, I am a simple bed person. When we built our Santa Monica home 6 years ago, I found my French bed on Ebay. Since it is probably 200 years old, it is actually made for a much smaller bed, but it seems to work well enough.
My bed in my Channel Islands home is just a Pottery Barn headboard slipcovered in my own white linen. The Italian wood carving was a present from Steve. Hopefully it
is attached to the wall securely, otherwise my obituary will read "She was killed by a gorgeous antique Italian wood carving". It seems like an appropriate way for a design obsessed person to go...
This bed designed by one of Steve's clients is just a dream. It is simple, but
the antique bed crown adds that special touch.
The simple bed canopy of this bed is just my style.

This bed is just gorgeous. The tall headboard looks beautiful surrounded by the white linen coming down from the bed crown.

I thought this simple upholstered bed was beautiful. It is from the amazing post
Joni at Cote de Texas did about the Four Seasons Hotel in Florence. If you haven't seen it, click here.
Joni's own bed designs are a favorite of mine. So elegant.
Phoebe Howard's designs are also lovely.
This robin's egg blue headboard designed by Ms. Howard is another favorite because of its shape and details .
Loved the colors and details of these beds also designed by Phoebe Howard.
Lately, my clients have been requesting more involved bed designs. Since Jackie von Tobel's bed design book has not been published yet, I have been doing my own research...
I was so impressed by these beds designed by Elizabeth Dinkel for the Veranda Show House at Greystone Manor. The canopy shape, the contrasting fabrics, the
charming lights over the bed are fantastic design.
Another wonderful canopy. This one is the design of Katie Ridder.
Wonderful use of color and pattern.
A more subdued design by Katie Ridder. A great headboard shape paired with an iron four poster bed. I am drawn to the light fabric she used to drape around the bed.
Peter Dunham's designs never disappoint, and this bed is no exception.
He pays such great attention to details.
I liked the gauzy fabric used on the four corners of this bed.

Vincent Wolf designed this elegant bed that is one of the inspirations for
a design I am working on. The sea foam and gold damask on the headboard
is stunning. Nothing is better than white crisp linens.
This Georgette Farkas design is another bed that I am using as inspiration. My client's bed will sit between two windows. The bed and the window treatments will have complimentary fabrics.
Here is the first design sketch of my client's bed. The drapery and outside panels of the bed will be made in a cream damask fabric. The inside panels of the bed and the bed cover will be a cream striped fabric. I am using a gorgeous cream silk velvet for the headboard and bed skirt.
Here are the fabric samples. It's a little hard to tell what they really look like, but I thought you might be curious.
I'd love to hear what you think.
