Every morning Steve and I take Frasier and Bebe for a walk. We live in a beautiful neighborhood close to the coast. Many of the homes were built in the early part of the 20th century (between 1920 and 1930). I thought I would take you with us this morning and show you some of my favorite homes.
This little home is a perfect example of the original small Mediterranean homes that
once dominated my neighborhood. Its sweet porch is typical for this style home.
This charming home is on the corner of my street. The porch is lined with large windows flanked by pretty green shutters.
This home is across the street from my home. I think it is fantastic. I love the painted balcony on the second floor. The landscaping is made up of bouganvilla vines, olive trees, lavender and potted topiaries. So pretty!
I always tell Steve that if we ever live in a Mediterranean home I am going to paint it pink. This home is painted the perfect shade of light pink. The light green shutters compliment the color of the home. The iron balcony on the second floor is just perfectly detailed.
This sunny yellow Mediterranean home just makes me happy. The detailing around the front door is exquisite. The driveway is made up of two strips of pavement softened by various ground covers and pieces of stone.
This little cottage has been a favorite of mine since we moved into the neighborhood.
I am sure it was built closer to 1910 as it has a bit of a Victorian feel to it.
The detailing is so sweet. The little arched dormers, the skinny columns and the low roof line make this home feel so inviting.
At the farthest point in our walk sits this adorable apartment complex. It is located across from the bluffs that over look the Pacific ocean. Again, it is the details that make these little buildings so charming. The varying roof lines, the lumpy plaster, the dark red painted wood, the stepping stone pathway give this building its English cottage feel.
Before taking you on my walk I never realized how many beautiful English style homes are in my neighborhood.
This home has such pretty roof lines and a lovely front porch.
I love the detailing of this home.
Just beautiful.
As you get closer to the beach, the size of the home gets bigger. This large brown shingle home was probably built around 1910. It is another of my favorites.
Like the little English cottage apartments, this large shingle style home sits across from the bluffs over looking the ocean. I'm sure this home was one of the first homes built in our neighborhood.
Another shingle beauty from the 1910's. This home was one of the inspirations for our own home when we built it seven years ago.
Here we are back at home. My garden is looking a little empty since it is the middle of winter.
I added rows of little cabbages to make up for my naked hibernating hydrangeas...
They look so pretty next to my Marguerite daisies.
Happy Weekend!
