One of the projects I am working on right now is a Master Bedroom in a Mediterranean home.
During the initial meeting with my client, I tried to find out what she loves. Since this is a decorating job in an already existing home, my client was able to show me the things she already owns that inspire her.
For example, she has two of these stunning table lamps that she purchased on a trip to France. They are very special to her and will be used in her bedroom.
She also loves John Robshaw prints
and Peter Dunham
I also showed her my portfolio. She liked the combination of Moroccan chairs with the more modern table in this image. The draperies were also one of her favorites.
Now, I usually spend a few hours looking through my own images to get some inspiration for the room.
My client mentioned wanting white walls, with neutral larger pieces in the room. We would add color in smaller areas like on ottomans and pillows.

I like the idea of doing an interesting patterned headboard, similar to this one by Madeline Stuart.

My design assistant, Gina measured the room and created a floor plan so we could do a furniture layout.
It is very important to do the furniture layout so you can see what size pieces work in the room.
I always like consulting with Steve at this point. It's great to have someone to bounce ideas off of.
Here is what we came up with...
We placed the bed on the wall between closet doors facing the french doors that look out to the back yard.
We made a seating a cozy seating area in front of the doors and a little table and chairs by the fireplace.
A television can be placed on top of a console or chest of drawers opposite the bed.
A large carpet will be placed over the wall to wall sea grass to ground the room.
Here is a sketch that Steve did of the concept of the room. Most of my clients have difficulty envisioning what their room will look like when it is complete. It is great to be able to show a client a
little drawing like this.
I'll let you know how the next meeting goes and where the design process goes from here.
