Before we built our home Santa Monica, Steve and I lived in a small bungalow home in West Los Angeles. These small homes were being torn down, and huge monstrous, clunky, Mediterranean-ish homes were being built in their place. I couldn't believe how ugly these homes were. Except for one. On the corner of one street sat a charming mostly one story hacienda. Built around a courtyard, this home had incredible details and authenticity. This was the home of Thomas Callaway.
The first Callaway home that I saw was this Spanish Ranch style hacienda home that was in our old neighborhood. Love the shuttered doors and the unassuming front door.
Today, Thomas Callaway is one of my favorite designers. Although he is self taught, his ability to design any style home with such attention to detail is beyond compare.
The front of a Federal style home by Mr. Callaway. Love the simple brick chimney details and the charming from porch.
The rear view of a Federal style farmhouse. There is nothing clunky about Mr. Callaway's designs. Everything is perfectly proportioned. The columns are slim and elegant, the stone is beautiful.
A Dutch Colonial Revival home designed by Mr. Callaway features a second story balcony and a covered porch below.
The rear facade of a Spanish Colonial home. The large covered outdoor living space is perfect for California living.
This French Normandy barn pool house is my favorite of his designs. It doesn't get any better than that wonderful roof and charming front entrance.
Being the amazing designer that he is, Mr. Callaway's interior designs are also sheer perfection! This romantic peach colored dining room is gorgeous. The monogramed slipcovers add to the feel of casual elegance.
The interior of the French Normandy pool house is just as fabulous as the exterior.
A beautiful French inspired bedroom with upholstered walls.
A magnificent English Tudor library with a hand-stenciled ceiling and stunning oak paneling.
Wouldn't it be dreamy to spend the night in this Cotswald inspired bedroom?
Of course, Thomas Callaway is also an incredible landscape designer. This is a
beautiful natural landscape design in front of a charming Callaway designed stable.
What little girl wouldn't adore this rose covered play house?
This walled cottage garden would be a wonderful place to spend a lazy afternoon.
A French limestone fountain sits in this garden filled with lavender and Olive trees.
This home was also in my old neighborhood. Mr. Callaway purchased the lot and built a charming shingle cottage on the site. These magnificent sycamore trees shade the entire yard.
