When we first purchased our Channel Islands Home, I hated the bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom had no character. The ceilings were a covered in pine boards, but they were stained a dated yellow color.

We addded a beautiful Italian wood piece above the bed to give some interest to a room that didn't have any architectural detailing. The same gauzy drapery that we used in the rest of the house replaced the metal blinds. The light quality is wonderful. We removed the white wall to wall carpet and installed sea grass with romantic floral rugs on top. A muted color scheme gave the room a tranquil feel.
I wanted to paint the ceiling white, but Steve suggested doing a wash to gray out the pine.
I was so glad we went with his idea.

Don't you just love this chaise? I knew it would look lovely in my room

This was my cramped little bathroom before I got my hands on it. The green tile just wasn't my style, and the red towels definitely had to go. The cabinetry was just a little to blah for my taste....

I doubled the size of the bathroom by getting rid of the closet. Since the bathroom was now so beautiful, I had no hesitation opening it up to the rest of the room.
I also finally got to use my favorite tub from The Bath Works. The patina is fantastic.
The slim lines of the antique Swedish table worked well in the space and didn't obscure the view of my
glass and limestone double shower. I replaced all of the can lights in the ceiling with a chandelier, adding Venetian sconces to the wall over the tub.

Say good-bye to the cabinet....

This room was so simple, so I selected each piece carefully. I found this antique Gustavian cabinet.
Although Stephan, at Lief was appalled that I was going to turn it into a sink base, I was thrilled with the end result. Since the cabinet is only 17 1/2" deep, I installed the faucets on the wall. All of the plumbing fixtures are from Waterworks. Vicky at the Santa Monica Showroom guided me through the whole process. She is a gem.
I hung charming vintage lights over the sinks and put mirrors in a pair of antique frames.
The same gauzy drapery that is in the rest of the house will cover the windows in the next couple of weeks.
I replaced the boring medicine cabinet door with this framed vintage costume sketch of Claudette Colbert.
So, now that I had removed the closet to enlarge the bathroom, I had to figure out where to store our clothes. My brilliant (and incredibly patient) husband made me this closet out of some old
Swedish doors and shutters that I had found. It's saved this huge wall from being so boring.
I would love to hear what you think of my bedroom. I am planning another give away from Giannetti Home this week. All the names of those of you who comment on my room will be placed in the hat for the drawing!
