One of my biggest enjoyments in life is collaborating with Steve.
Even if it is a job that needs no architectural work, our brainstorming sessions
always bring new ideas to my design process.
This family room was a fun and challenging project. Because of the size of the television, we knew that the large cabinet had to stay.
BEFORE
My challenge was to transform the cabinet in some way so that it felt less "country".
I suggested staining it dark and Steve recommended putting fabric panels in the doors to keep it from looking too heavy. My clients were unsure about our suggestions, so I asked Steve to do a rendering of the room. Since my drawing skills have not advanced beyond stick figure drawings, I'm very fortunate to be able to ask Steve to do these charming (and convincing) sketches.
AFTER
We chose to keep the furniture neutral, adding color in the accessories and wall color. The dark wood pieces are a lovely complement to the light colors on the sofas.
