patina farm update: un-lacquered brass plumbing fixtures, and the view from the pond...

 

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and Passover!

Although we didn't work this weekend, we did sneak in a visit to Patina Farm...

The plumbing fixtures are starting to be installed. In our Master Bathroom, the Waterworks Etoile Faucets were installed....

 

The pewter tub from The Bathworks was put into place as well.

 

Once the brass fixtures start to age, they will look lovely with the tub.

 

Nick's Waterworks Henry shower fixtures are now in place.

 

Leila chose the Waterworks Etoile Low Profile Wall Mount Faucet wit Cross Handles.

 

I selected a Kohler utility sink paired with a Barber Wilsons Faucet for the Laundry Room.

 

A vintage spout that we found during our trip to Belgium is being used in Steve's Art Studio/Office Bathroom (a.k.a. "The Library").  The spout will be controled by foot pedals. This will come in handy when Steve's hands are covered with paint!

 

The Danze Stainless Steel Parma Faucet adds a little "industrial" vibe to the chicken coop kitchen. I can't wait to see all of the shelves and cabinetry in this room!

 

 

Meanwhile in the kitchen,  the Lacanche is finally in place...

 

and the center island is being fabricated!

 

The carpenters are also working on the wood doors in the Mud Room...

 

and the scaffolding shelves in Steve's office. 

 

After walking around the house, Steve and I spent some time sitting on the dock by the pond.

 

As we walk around the pond, the Guest House Barn can be seen through the trees...

The magnificent Oak trees are always in the foreground of the house. The tree determined the design of the house.

 

The 300 year old Oak tree towers above the house, providing shade to the entire back courtyard. Isn't she magnificent? 

And then back to the pond... I have a feeling this will become one of Steve's favorite places to paint.

Patina Farm: moving ahead...

I have to admit...

Our life is feeling a little out of control... 

We are at the end of the school year, which means Charlie going to his prom...

and dealing with the high stress of final exams for all three of our children. Plus, we are moving at the end of June (just our house, not the office!) . 

Leila has started taking equestrian lessons, as she gets ready to take care of a horse at her new school in Ojai.

We are also making decisions for Patina Farm. At the beginning of the week, we had a wonderful visit with Peter Van Cronenburg and his lovely wife, Regine.  

 

 

Many of you may remember that we met Peter and Regine during our visit to Belgium last year. Peter creates the most beautiful hardware that Steve and I have ever seen. He is an incredible artist!

Peter is very excited to help us create hardware for all of the antique doors (which are stacked all over our store!) that we have collected for Patina Farm. 

 

Peter shares our appreciation for antique hardware. The latch on this antique door will be the inspiration for several pieces that Peter will create.

 

Steve shared pictures from our visit to the Van Cronenburg's shop in Ghent, Belgium with Regine. We saved images of several of the Van Conenburg's designs to use at Patina Farm.

 

Fortunately Peter and Regine brought many gorgeous samples!

 

Their finishes are spectacular!  We plan to use levers on many of the doors, similar to the one on the right.

At the end of the week, I went to the Waterworks showroom to visit Vicky Urbanas, as we finally placed our order for our plumbing fixtures.

Since we first saw the Waterworks Henry line, Steve and I knew we would use it somewhere at Patina Farm. We chose the Henry low profile one hole deck mount faucet in unlacquered brass for Nick's bathroom.

and this handsome Henry pressure balance.

We are using an unlacquered brass Etoile wall mount faucet in Leila's bathroom...

 

with a Hancock vessel sink.

 We selected the Easton shower components.  I prefer their simple design. 

 

Leila's pressure balance will look similar to this, with a metal lever.  

 

After much waffling back and forth (Vicky will attest to this!), we have finally decided on the Etoile gooseneck three hole deck mounted faucet, with metal lever handles in unlacquered brass for our master bathroom. 

 

I like mixing metals, so we are pairing our pewter tub with the Etoile exposed tub filler in unlacquered brass.

 

There will be two Easton exposed thermostatic systems in the shower.

 

We also place our order for our Barber Wilsons faucets for our kitchen...

The 1040 in unlacquered brass for the island...

 

 

and the 1030 bridge faucet in unlacquered brass for the main sink. Both faucets will have metal levers. 

 

Because all of our plumbing fixtures will be in unlacquered brass, we wanted to order them as soon as possible to give them plenty of time to age. Once they arrive at the shop, please feel free to come by and touch them. We need everyone's help to add to their patina! 

 

Grading will begin in the next couple of weeks, so I will be sharing some messy dirt moving images soon!  The mess comes before the beauty :)

oh henry!

Every once in a while I see a new product that gives me chills. I have to admit that it doesn't really happen all that often. My most recent giddy love is Henry. Don't worry, Steve has nothing to worry about!

This is Henry....

My friend and "Waterworks Go To Person" Vicky Urbanas stopped by yesterday to officially introduce us to Waterworks new Henry fixtures and Grove Brickworks.

 

When I first heard about Henry I knew that Steve would love all of the pieces in the line. After all, Henry is inspired by the industrial age and the designs of Gropius, Saarinen, and Brancusi.  
 

Every part of Henry is gorgeous!
   

 I love the look of the unlacquered brass, which will only get more beautiful over time...

  Of course, Henry is stunning in nickel as well!

    

The natural but refined texture and chalky neutral colors of Grove Brickworks are a perfect compliment for Henry. 
   

Steve and I have already shown Henry and Grove to several of our new clients. The subtle industrial and modern lines of Henry and the more rustic quality of Grove are exactly the feel we are trying to achieve in their homes.

Henry and Grove are two of Waterworks more moderately priced lines, which our clients also liked :)
   

As you can see, Grove works wonderfully in the bathroom and the kitchen!

powder room design - part five and video!

I'm trying something new, so be patient with me! Steve and I went up to our home in Channel Islands Harbor to check out our Powder Room. The sink was installed this week, and I was really nervous to see how it turned out. I thought you might like to see my reaction, so I asked Steve to take some video. Let's see how what happened...

I was thrilled with the installation of my antique marble sink! Tom, my general contractor, did exactly what I wanted. The sink was imbedded into the wall, making it feel like a fountain. Here is another short video of how our Powder Room looked when we hung my gilded mirror...

For those of you who can't watch the video, here are a couple of images of my Powder Room now...

Most of the pieces in my Powder Room are fairly inexpensive. My console is a reproduction from Chelsea Textiles, and I purchased my marble sink from my friend Shane (aka Big Daddy). The spout that we finally chose was actually the spout from my fountain in my back yard (I guess I'll have to find another one for my fountain!). My general contractor, Tom dipped my new brass lever in draino for a weekend. It aged the heck out of it. The only splurge was my gorgeous mirror. She is the Queen in the room. 

 

I'll be spending part of my holiday doing the finishing touches to this room and planting around the shutters that are the focal point outside of the window.
