Like most people, when I was younger I didn't really think about the passage of time. My life was ahead of me and it seemed like time was limitless. Now that I am older I have started appreciating the little moments of beauty in my life more and more.
This weekend, I spent several hours outside admiring the abundant blooms that fill my garden this time of year.
When we built this split rail fence 8 years ago, I dreamed of the day that the wood would weather to gray. I knew that my cabbage roses would be stunning as they laid their heads against the silvery fence.
I planted several pale lavender rose bushes along the fence as well.
Every shade of pink can be found in my Spring time garden.
A group of foxgloves make a grand showing with their stalks of purple bells.
In May, the front of my home becomes a secret garden, barely visible from the street.
The bright green leaves on our birch trees create a canopy so low that even I have to lower my head to enter.
The aroma of lavender fills the air as I enter our garden.
As I walk through the gate today, I notice that our hydrangeas are just beginning to bloom.
In the garden beds, even the chives are joining the colorful display.
No matter how much I feed my vegetables I still seem to only grow miniature bell peppers. Although they are quite petite, the are still delicious!
Cucumbers are beginning to wind their way around the trellis.
Blueberries are turning a deep shade of purple
I was fortunate to spend some time with my friend Pamela Terry in my garden this weekend. Pamela was in town to help one of her friends celebrate his birthday.
Pamela is one of the special people in my life who has taught me and many others how to appreciate small moments through the beautiful stories she shares on her blog (one of my favorites!), From the House of Edward.
Unfortunately I am not as eloquent as Pamela, and my description of her blog will never fully capture how special it is. I highly recommend that you visit Pamela, her husband the Song Writer, and their adorable pups, Edward and Apple to lose yourself for a moment!
