Like many of you around the Country, we have been experiencing some freezing temperatures here in Ojai. Many of my veggies did not survive the cold, so Leila and I decided to do some replanting this morning...
Morning is my favorite time in my garden. The light is particularly beautiful at this time of day...
I asked Ricardo, our gardener, to save some of the branches we trimmed off of our trees. They work well as poles for the peas and beans.
Leila and I tied the pea seedlings to the branches with garden tape.
I used twine to tie the branches together at the top. As the peas begin to grow, I'll add more twine between the verticals.
I love the rustic feel the natural branches add to my planter beds. They remind me of the trellises we saw during our trip to Mount Vernon.
This vintage stone puppy is also an addition to my little kitchen garden. I like to include a little whimsy to these kinds of spaces.
As the pea vines wind their way up, they'll add some mid-height greenery as well as providing us with something to munch on!
I've also started placing items on my screened porch. A pair of small vintage chairs is a calm place to sit and enjoy the view.
I hung a pair of arched gates on the opposite wall. I hope the jasmine vine will cover the gate in fragrant white blooms by Spring.
Even at this early stage, my Winter veggie garden is a happy scene from my office.
As always, please feel free to ask questions in the comment section of this post!
I hope you are enjoying the first days of Winter where ever you are!
