On the way to the airport at the end of our recent trip to Chicago, we were able to make a brief but fabulous detour to do some shopping along North Clark Street. Our first stop was Brimfield. Although my camera was already packed away, I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures with my iphone...
Brimfield's aesthetic is all about plaid. The first display that caught my eye was this huge collection of vintage plaid blankets.
Even in the 40 degree weather, these baskets and thermoses made me want to go on a picnic. We could fill the thermos with hot chocolate and wrap ourselves up in a few of those cozy blankets!

this armchair upholstered in a vintage striped blanket and...

A handsome vintage red canoe hangs over a large expanse of the store and ties in nicely with all of the red plaid fabrics and the campy ambience of Brimfield.
If you're not ready to commit to plaid furniture, you can always opt for one of these scarves to add just a hint of vintage plaid, stripe or argyle to your life!
Or perhaps a couple of cozy pillows?
Although there is quite a bit of plaid at Brimfield, there are also furniture pieces upholstered in other vintage fabrics, like these chairs covered in US Navy canvas.
Walking down the stairs to the lower level, our son Charlie spied this cozy sitting area. He wanted to buy everything and turn his room into Brimfield West!
I, on the other hand, wanted to hang out with this bird on this pretty ottoman. Well, actually I just wanted to steal his hat (it was really chilly!).
