In a recent post on her beautiful blog The Polished Pebble, my friend Kelley pointed out that one of the latest trends in kitchen and bathroom design is the use of furniture pieces instead of built in cabinetry.
Was Kelley a mind reader? Or am I just a sheep following today's design trends? Here is Steve's sketch of my dream kitchen for our future home:
The inspiration? The kitchen at Chateau Dominigue.
Image via Joni's wonderful Cote de Texas.
Details I love:
Deep inset steel windows in a fabulous stone wall
No upper cabinets.
Thick limestone counter. No real cabinets.
Antique doors next to the sink.
Natural linen skirt under the farmhouse sink to add softness.
Pot rack under a large hood over the over. Embrace the beauty of kitchen pot and pans!
Large table as an island with open storage underneath.
A few added details:
Open shelves above the window
A wall of antique doors that open up to a pantry room for extra storage.
A wonderful chandelier hanging for the old barn beams.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Any suggestions for my new kitchen?
Details to follow :)
