Thank you so much for your input on the type of posts that you enjoy. Your opinions have given me some great ideas for futures posts.
Onto the give away results:
Congratulations to Renee W for being the 11th comment. Your Linnea's Lights Pomander Candle will be on its way to you this week!
Also, Congratulations to Kelly in Memphis for being the 179th comment. We'll be sending your Linnea's Lights Winter Candle this week too!
I also wanted to thank all of you who left comments on my post about my garden project. Many of you had questions, so I thought I would answer them here...
1. My Garage Door.
I know it looks like carriage doors, but it's actually one normal garage door (opens up) that Steve designed to look like carriage doors. We added "strap hinges" and big ring pulls to make it look like it was actually two pairs of carriage doors.
We bought the doors from Gary Dumas at George Garage Doors. Call him on his cell: 714.476.9718. He said that all you have to do is mention "Velvet and Linen" to get his best price.
2. Paint Colors:
We painted our house Farrow and Ball "Pointing". It's similar to Benjamin Moore "Swiss Coffee". Several of you also asked for the color of our front door. The truth is that I don't remember, and it has since been painted over. The new color is Farrow and Ball "Hardwick White", which is actually a grey color. Sorry no picture yet, but I promise to take one!
3. The Glass Doors.
We installed these doors so that we could enjoy the courtyard from the inside without losing our pups, but I don't love the way they look, and neither did some of you.
I'm going to try painting them Hardwick White and adding some door hardware. All of the hardware in the house is by Bouvet, so I chose these handles...
in a pewter finish.
I think this will help!
4. My Shutters.
Yes, I know they are too tall. As you can see they were installed about 6" too high. They are going to be lowered this week. I was impressed that you noticed!
5. The Gravel.
We looked at all different shades of gravel and decided on just plain old pea gravel. It's was the cheapest and looked nice with the broken concrete that we used for the planter walls.
6. Epoxy.
This is the stuff. Many of you asked if you can use it in cold climates. I have no idea. Our weather in Oxnard is very mild, so it isn't an issue. I would recommend talking to a landscaper before using it.
7. Epoxy application.
No, we didn't do anything to our cement driveway before applying the epoxy. Rolled it on, threw the gravel on top, dried in a couple of hours....
and it's actually really easy to walk on!
8. Our landscape installer.
Brian Diamond. 818.509.9573 He's amazing. I highly recommend him.
I left the hardest question to answer for last...
9. What the heck is a European Industrial Barn? The answer is that we're not quite sure yet. We are in the process of gathering inspiration.
Eventually we are going to add a tall loft space above the garage. It will look something like this on the inside.

With a little bit of this...
I'd love it to feel like this amazing home by Tracery Interiors.

I'm still struggling with the outside.
This home by Kurt Aichler that Joni included in her post is gorgeous. I've saved it in my inspiration file for our home. See the section of the home above the two garage doors on the left? That's what I want our front facade to look like but with a little "industrial" thrown in. Maybe some steel windows? To read Joni's entire post on this house click here.
I hope I have answered all of your questions about my garden project. I'll be adding to the plants on Tuesday. I promise to bring you along.
Have a wonderful Monday!
