Before I start this post, I wanted to let you know that my dear friend, Valorie from Visual Vamp has made it into the next round of the Apartment Therapy Room for Color Contest. Valorie's office is amazing. We only have 24 hours to vote for her. To vote click here.
Thank you everyone for all of your wonderful comments about Steve's project in Maine. I have saved the best for last. The barn is really a magical building.
Steve and our client, interior designer Courtney Hollander, had so much fun designing the furniture and lighting for this project. You might recognize the Leila chair at the end of the dining table. Steve also designed the two tier lantern.
Courtney scoured the local antique shops for unique pieces to add charm to the barn.
A pair of striped Nate chairs create a seating area on the second floor landing. The lanterns are from Circa Antiques
I absolutely LOVE this bathroom. My favorite detail.....
The wood beams in the shower! How cool is that?
No barn would be complete without a bunk room.
This door opens to a balcony overlooking the two story space.
All of the barn bathrooms use the same materials: soapstone slabs, white oak cabinets, California One Kote walls, and a few old beams.
I am looking forward to finally visiting Maine in June!
Also, you may not hear from me for the next couple of days. I'm having some minor surgery today . Don't worry, nothing life threatening. Apparently I not only create rooms, but I also create gall stones!
I'll be back by the weekend, I promise :)
xo

Good luck with your surgery!!!

Brooke, our husband is quite a talent… and I think that his working as a team with you has made him quite a pleasure for other designers to work with. I’ve enjoyed all the beautiful photos.
Right now I am working on a bathroom remodel in which the contractor is like working with a “good ole boy, Neanderthal”… not exactly a harmonious relationship.
Hope you have a quick recovery!

Dear Brooke,
I love the barn!!!
I like small houses and spaces!!
Is that slate in the bathroom around the sink??
I hope all goes well with surgery????
Did you try the natural route before surgery???
I have two friends that were able to get them to come out after relexology???
Drink lot's of water!!!!

That is the most gorgeous 'barn' I've ever seen. I'm not sure if it is the simplistic layout or the lighting or both!

Brooke (and Steve),
I agree...it would be hard to get any work done while enjoying the roar of the ocean. I could definitely see myself living in a place like this...beautiful as always. I love too the built in bunk beds...
Brooke, a speedy recovery to you....(I wish I had know of your "stones", I did a natural home remedy a number of years ago to pass the stones, haven't had a problem since, would have shared!)
Let your family wait on you a day or two, you might be just a wee sore.

Hi Cindy.
The beams in the shower have been well sealed, so they should hold up well.

Exquisite detailing and craftsmanship in the beautiful, cozy barn. (Just like in the house.) We don't have such sophisticated barns here in Iowa!
All the best, Brooke for a smooth recovery and a healthful future. Time to take care of yourself for a while. Easier said, than done, right?

You're right, the barn is GORGEOUS!! Love the timberframe and all the wonderful wood :-) The 2nd floor landing looks like a wonderful sunny place to read a book, and love the soapstone in the bathrooms.
Good luck with your surgery. I had minor knee surgery a month ago, and in spite of my complete paranoia about it, I have to admit that it was quick and simple and pretty much pain-free :-)

Yes, I could see myself pitter-pattering around that Maine house for sure!
Ooh, gall stones are nasty business I hear. Hope surgery goes smoothly and then you can relax and be pampered like the Queen of Sheba! Well, you can try anyway. ;)

BEAUTIFUL! I love the soapstone slabs in the bathrooms. I also have a client with a very old American flag (i mean, REALLY old and dingy) and I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Seeing yours simply hung on the wall at the top of the landing makes me want to do the same. Great pictures! Good luck with the surgery!
